The African Bush Elephant is the largest land dwelling animal.
The largest on record, shot in Angola in 1955, was a bull weighing
27,000 pounds and standing 13.8 feet high (the body is now mounted in
the rotunda of the National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.).
The elephant normally moves at a rate of 5 mph but it can reach a top
speed of 25 mph when upset.
The bull elephant goes down readily to well-placed hits from cartridges
